Dr. Seuss Day 2011!
This year the Renaissance Academy hosted an author visit to celebrate Dr. Seuss Day! Author Chris Trefz came in and read his book, Below the Waves to students and staff. Mr. Trefz also talked about the inspiration for his stories, the writing and illustrating process, and how he became a published author. Students were able to purchase books and have them authographed by Mr. Trefz after the assembly.

Rita Paige had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Trefz for an exclusive interview!
What inssspired you to become a writer?
I’ve always wanted to be an illustrator. When I started school a professor of mine suggested that I add a story to my pictures to make them more interesting and that’s how it all started!
How did you learn to draw ssso well?
I’ve been drawing ever since I was young. My school had a great art program and helped me a lot. Going to the Tyler School of Art also helped me hone my skills.
Do you like to eat mice for breakfast too?
I prefer crickets!
What’sss your favorite reptile?
I have a bearded dragon named Lizzie and a red eared slider turtle named Mellow so I like them a lot.
